In 2020, when the world went quiet and stayed home, and our streets filled with a reckoning over race, I started free online art classes for children. We painted portraits together. Kids from all over the world logged on to learn, to celebrate one another, and to make the world a little more colorful.

Color Together grew faster than I imagined. The classes were featured on ABC's Localish and led to partnerships with Rebel Girls, Apple, Rise Up, Oakland Asian Cultural Center, Little Feminists, the Phenomenal Girl Campaign, and many more. I've been invited to speak at Google, Ciel Creative Space, Groundfloor SF, and Bay Area schools about the power of connection through art.

In 2023, it grew into something I never expected. I partnered with MAJO Ideas, a small, women-owned business, to create an art kit: Vol 9 Faces, which I illustrated in collaboration with Kehinde Wiley. It's a thoughtful kit made to celebrate the artist in every child, and it's carried at SFMOMA, MOCA in Los Angeles, and locally owned boutiques across the country.

What began as a way for children to feel seen during a hard year became the root of how I work now: start with the kids, and let art be how we celebrate who we are.
