Artist Statement
I speak and connect through pigments, honoring the skin I am in, the cultures that built me, and the women who raised me.
This piece was inspired by a moment with my children. As I placed coconut oil on my girls' scalps, my oldest asked if my mother did this for me too. A gesture of love, passed down.
Through my practice, I keep finding the essence of human connection, the universal threads that bind us, the beauty within us, the experiences we share. I imagine a little girl like me, seeing herself celebrated in art. I hope some part of her feels our stories woven together, with care and pride.
